The Lord's Fast

October 12-18: Isaiah 58:6-11

The fast the Lord has chosen-

What a privilege to observe,

To offer up your sacrifice

And be inclined to serve.

To take your fill in lifting

One who’s weary and oppressed,

To feast your soul on mercy

That the needy might be blessed.

To give the Lord an offer

Of the things you stand in need,

To bring a balm unto the poor

And for the weary plead.

Deal even now thy portion

Of your daily bread away,

That the naked and the hungry

Might be clothed and fed today.

Then will thy light break forth

And will thy peace and hope abound,

With righteousness before thee

And God’s glory to surround.

And He will guide and satisfy

In seasons plagued with drought,

As a spring of precious water

That can ever be drawn out.

And when you call upon the Lord

He’ll hear your tender cry,

And He’ll incline His mighty ear

And answer, “Here am I.”
