Joy Comes in the Morning
August 17-23: Psalm 30:5 As the earth stands to the sun It fills the world with day Then as it takes its journey round At even turns away. It spins according to its course For purpose it must see Both light and dark upon its face For earth and life to be. And so we bear the sightless hours When the sun doth sleep When the darkest of abyss may Cause our eyes to weep. But the darkness cannot stay The Lord will bring forth light For joy comes in the morning hour So trust Him thr

My Shepherd
August 17-23: Psalm 23 The Lord, my Shepherd, is my guide By waters still He leads To greenest meadows He directs To care for all my needs. I walk with Him on paths of peace And though darkness surrounds I fear it not, for thus I know All evil He confounds. The rod and staff within His hands Protect and guide His sheep His goodness and His mercy are The land that marks His keep. I do not want for anything My shepherd will provide He calls my name to beckon me And keeps me by

The Lord Is
August 17-23: Psalms Inspired by descriptions or titles of the Lord found in the Book of Psalms The Lord is my Shepherd The Lord is my Stay He is my Redeemer Who maketh a way. The Lord is my Tower That lifteth me high The Lord is my Shield When the enemy’s nigh. The Lord is my Refuge His words, oh how sweet A light to my path And a lamp to my feet. The Lord is my Help My Hope and my King The Lord is my Strength And the Song that I sing. The Lord is the Lifter Of my weary head

Come Forth as Gold
August 10-16: Job 23:10 When upon the path of life You sweetly glide along, When your days are full of sunshine And the sparrows' song, When each day with hope arises Bringing your reward, How much have ye reason then To stand and praise the Lord? If life’s journey takes you down A different path today, Where the briars, thorns and thistles Grow to block your way, If the Lord guides on a journey Up the steepest hill, If from grief He does not shield you Will you trust Him

For Such a Time as This
August 3-9: Esther 4:14 Perhaps for such a time Perhaps in just this way Perhaps the stage had thus been set Preparing for this day. The day decreed for evil Yet in this desperate scene A Jewish woman raised up Once an orphan, now a queen. To captivate her kingdom So lovely, true and brave The Lord had guided Esther here Her people now to save. For He who holds the earth Guides all within His hands Perhaps we cannot comprehend The things that He has planned. Perhaps He has in

I Will Not Come Down
July 27- August 2: Nehemiah 2;4-6 The enemy hath broken up The city walls I love, Hath laid them waste and casted down Her holy gates thereof. But from the ruins of this place A call that pierces through, The Lord He whispers, "Gather in And build my walls anew." And since I love the Holy One Then I will heed His call, And have a mind to do His work As I ascend the wall. But there are host who now surround Determined to delay The work of God from going forth Who stand to bloc

The God Who Fights for Me
July 20-26: 2 Chronicles 20:12-17 When against the enemy There's none else I can do, When my burdens overcome I lift my eyes to You. When the pathway I should walk Is one I cannot see, When I do not know the way I raise my voice to Thee. When wading through a sea of fear And sure I’ve met defeat, I bring my troubles to Your throne And lay them at Your feet. And trust that in Thy perfect way Salvation I shall see, And then stand still and trust in You- The God who fights for m

Scattering & Gathering
July 13-19: 2 Kings 17, 24-25 Ideas taken from verses on the scattering & gathering of Israel Oh Zion and her daughters To whence have ye all fled? Oh Israel my beloved Where too hath come thy dread? The house of God is ravaged Thy children’s bones are dried, The beauty of thy cities fades To ashes for thy pride. For did I ever cast thee out Did ever I betray? No, to another ye that gone And sold yourself away. For only just a moment I’ll turn my face away, But with my endle

Chariots of Fire
July 6-12: 2 Kings 6:15-17 What lies beyond these mortal eyes That only Heaven sees? If I could peer beyond the veil To where the spirit flees, If my eyes so unattuned To more supernal things, Could see into the realm beyond Enclosed in Heaven's wings. If I could draw the curtain back Between Heaven and me, To see the Lord command His hosts Oh just what might I see? How often do the angel's hands Hang over me to bless? How often do my loved ones gone Come aid in my distress?

The Cleansing of Naaman
July 6-12: 2 Kings 5:1-14 Unto a mighty man of God A man of valor came, To ask the Lord to heal his wounds And Naaman was his name. Once a man of noble strength Now pleading for a cure, He came with hope that Israel’s God Could make him clean and pure. So at the prophet's door he told The story of his grief, And from the house the prophet sent Instructions for relief. Promising if down into The Jordan he would go, He’d be made clean, as there he washed Within the rivers flow.
