Lessons From Eden

January 19-25: Genesis 2-3, Moses 4-5

They placed us in a garden,

Of never ending wealth,

Where all was given freely

For enjoyment and for health.

We two had all dominion,

Plants of beast of every kind,

And we were spared from trial

Both of body and of mind.

Our peace would last forever,

The sun would rise and set,

On our staying in this garden

Where our every need was met.

Then came a subtle serpent,

Who claimed I could be wise,

If I ate the fruit forbidden

Which might open up my eyes.

So I had a decision,

That only I could make,

To stay here in this garden

Or of knowledge to partake.

The road would not be easy,

Though I did’t know quite why,

But the longing for becoming

Drove my longing now to try.

And so I did partake,

And Adam did as well,

We were driven from the garden

Now among the thorns to dwell.

Here we would learn to labor,

And sweat would fill our brow,

We’d know the pain of body

And lives grief could touch us now.

But we were not forsaken,

God assured us we could be,

Once again there in His presence

For our Savior, Christ would be.

And though we walked through heartache,

Our hearts now understood,

It is better to know sorrow

So we know to prize the good.
