Blessings & Burdens

May 4-10, Numbers 21:4-5

Manna sent from heaven:

Miraculous a blessing,

And Israel gathered it in awe

Their love for God confessing.

But soon the miracle,

Was lost on the delivered,

As day by day their gratitude

And patience both had withered.

And now the bread from heaven,

They couldn’t well determine,

If it had been a blessing

Or if it had been a burden.

Forgetting in their loathing,

Their lost and helpless state,

Without the Lord’s sustaining grace

Destruction was their fate.

Maybe in our journey,

When we are growing faint,

The wisdom that the Lord provides

May be met with complaint.

But we would be wise children,

As we are being proved,

Not to get our blessings

And our burdens both confused.
