In My Place

October 5-11: Isaiah 50:6; Isaiah 53

My peace, for His chastisement

His pain, for my relief

To be my aid and comfort

He carried all my grief.

The weight of my transgression

He trembled as He bore

As the blood of my redemption fell

From each and every pore.

And from the scorn and torment

He did not hide His face

He gave His back to smiters

As He stood there in my place.

He was stricken and afflicted

And yet He did not contend

So that I might have a portion

And that I might have a friend.

Then numbered with transgressors

Though not a sin He knew

He opened up the prison gates

To let the sinner through.

Oh what a matchless offering

My soul inside doth yearn

To give the smallest portion

To my Savior in return.

My love, for His devotion

My service, for His care

My gratitude unending

For His gift beyond compare.

My faith in His redemption

Steadfastness in His ways

A heart contrite and broken

And a life to sing His praise!
