Sweetness of Grace

March 16-22: Genesis 42-45

(Sonnet)

Are these truly those who so long ago,

Cast me down into a pit to be sold,

And had me sent down to Egypt below,

Humble before my eyes just as foretold?

Kneeling before me with desperate eyes.

Weary hands out turned for want of my bread.

Haven’t I right to look on with despise?

But now my heart swells with mercy instead.

Oh brothers, turn not your anger inside.

All has turned out as the Lord willed it should.

He sent me before you, now to provide,

And has worked all things together for good.

Come rest in my wealth and behold my face,

Oh such is the sweetness of Jesus’ grace!
