Wise and Foolish Builders

Matthew 7:24-27; Luke 6:46-49

What separates the wise and fools

When building is required,

Is not the skill or tools in hand

Or pay for which they're hired.

What makes the difference as they labor

Building dusk to dawn,

Is not how quick the work ensues

It's what they build upon.

Upon the sand the foolish build

And then comes flood and drift,

And sand with time, like man's ideas

Are surely prone to shift.

But he who's wise, upon a rock

He builds his building tall,

And when the winds and rain descend

They cannot make it fall.

Upon our Savior and his word

We build our life secure,

And He will keep and strengthen us

For His foundation's sure.
