Easter Week

We saw Him ride triumphant,

We heard them praise their king,

We joined in their hosannas

For the peace that he would bring.

We watched Him cleanse the temple,

His hallowed house they spurned,

He drove those who defiled out

With tables over turned.

We ate with Him at even,

He broke unleavened bread,

We ate it in remembrance

Of His body, as he said.

We journeyed to a garden,

Where He came to atone,

And as our eyes fell heavy

He did bear it all alone.

And when they came to take Him,

Like lambs we ran afraid,

By strangers He was taken

But by friends He was betrayed.

And there upon a hill,

They nailed Him to a tree,

Where He would die in agony

For all the world to see.

And then the world grew silent,

And nature held its breath,

And buried in a garden tomb

He burst the bands of death.

Then early in the morning,

Those coming to the tomb,

Found not the Savior’s body

But instead an empty room.

And then declared the angels,

"Why seek among the dead?

For truly He is not here

But is risen as He said."

And then we did remember,

And saw this had been planned,

And He had given warning

But we couldn’t understand.

And words can not portray,

Our joy and emotion,

To handle Him and see again

The Lord of our devotion.

And now to all the world,

We testify He lives,

And call to all, to come and see

The hope His gospel gives!
