Matthew 13:3-9, 18-23; Mark 4:3-20; Luke 8:4-15

A sower bearing seed in hand

Went out one day to sow,

And spread the seeds upon the ground

To see what he could grow.

And as he sowed he watched for growth

And what the sower found,

Was what determined his success

Depended on the ground.

For some seeds cast he by the way

And others on stony places,

And more h e threw among the thorns

Sowing in all his spaces.

And lastly some on good ground fell

And when his work was ended,

He stopped to watch for plants to grow

Just as he had intended.

The seeds that fell along the wayside

Much to his despair,

Were trodden down and then consumed

By fowls of the air.

And those that fell on stony ground

Lacked deepness to take root,

And withered in the heat of day

Never giving fruit.

And of the seeds among the thorns

When they tried to sprout,

The thorns alongside sprung up too

And thus they choked them out.

And last the sower came to see

The seed in ground twas good,

And it took root and grew to yield

Just as he knew it could.

For all the seed was good seed

Just as all God's word is good,

And In our hearts the seeds can grow

If we live as we should.

For faith can grow if we give place

But we must do our part,

And then the fruits of Spirit grow

In the garden of the heart.
